In 1962 a group of single people who shared a beach house in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, were looking for some type of social activity for the winter months and they formed a club to hold black-tie dances on Friday evenings. The first dance was held October 19, 1962, in a rented Washington, D.C. ballroom. Dance locations soon broadened to include embassies, private clubs, and area hotels. Over the years, the Club expanded from five to eight dinner-dances per year and from an all-singles group to a mixed group of couples and singles.

Today, the Club is an incorporated organization focusing on elegance and excellence in ballroom dancing and enjoyable social dining.
