About Us

cotillion imageAbout Our Club.....................................................................................
The Capital Cotillion is a non-profit social club, established to provide entertainment for its members by holding elegant dinner dances at the best country clubs in the Washington D.C. area.

The Club was founded 1962 by a group of single people who shared a beach house in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Looking for some sort of elegant social activity for the winter months, they formed a club to hold black-tie dances on Friday evenings. The first dance was held on October 19, 1962, in a rented ballroom in Washington, D.C. Locations soon broadened to include embassies, women’s clubs, officer’s clubs, and area hotels. Over the years, the Club expanded from five to eight dinner-dances per year, and from an all-singles group to a blend of singles and couples. Today, the Club remains a non-profit organization that fosters elegance and excellence in dancing. Using the Club for commercial gain is prohibited.

About Our Dances......................................................................................................
Currently, the Club uses a variety of live bands and meets at exclusive local country clubs such as Belle Haven, Fairfax, and Congressional. The Club dress code requires formal attire for all evening events. Men are expected to keep their jackets on at all times. Evening dances typically begin at 6:15 PM with a short social period and cash bar. Dinner is served at 7:00 and dancing goes from 8:00 to 11:00. Afternoon dances are “black tie optional.” Dancing usually begins at 4:00 PM with dinner at 7:00 PM.

Dinner menus offer at least three choices including a vegetarian. Seating is at assigned tables. The dance costs are typically $85 per person, depending on the venue and your entrée selection. Guest fees are an additional $12.50 per person.

About Membership.....................................................................................................
Capital Cotillion is a members-only club for committed ballroom dancers. All prospective new members must be sponsored by current member and require approval by the Club’s Board of Directors. Membership dues are currently $75 per person for 8 dances held once a month, from October to June.

The Capital Cotillion Club is looking to expand its membership base, and the Board is encouraging guests to attend one or more dances to see if the club meets expectations. Guests are by invitation only, usually sponsored by a member. Area ballroom dance instructors, upon approval by a Club Officer, may sponsor multiple guests to designated dances and may be assigned dedicated tables for their partnered or single dance students.
